My Entangled Journey

Spring 2017: EL CoP Participant

After taking a brief break from being involved in Entangled Learning Communities of Practice during the fall semester of 2016 while I was studying abroad, I was excited to join a  new Community of Practice. In this CoP we focused on reading the book Cultivating Communities of Practice. While the discussions were rich and we were able to focus on its application in the Long Runway Program (see Summer 2017 for more information about this), it was difficult to have a completely Entangled experience due to the fact that there were many members who demonstrated varying levels of engagement. We rarely had all twelve members in attendance at our weekly meetings, and typically only averaged about six individuals per meeting. This made it difficult to establish the level of strength a community must have to function as an Entangled group of learners.

For whatever reason this semester, be it the heavy course load I was taking, the emphasis on reading the book and not engaging by gathering our own resources, or lack of commitment from the community to have an Entangled experience, I failed to create a learning design or reflect on my practice at all throughout the semester. For this reason, there is not final learning portfolio linked on this page. While I feel that our community  lost a level of insight by not reflecting regularly, this lack of documented reflection has motivated me to continue the practice of reflecting on a weekly basis in the future.
